A small gathering of NoVA JUG members met on December 16, 2009 at the Parkridge VI location. They included Frank Hallahan, Dorothy Firsching, and Bruce Scherzinger.
We discussed the question of how to engage users through social networking. Bruce showed his innovative class reunion website. We were all impressed. The site generated significant donations beyond what was necessary to hold the reunion.
Dorothy’s notes included the following tidbits to consider:
- A “Recommend this site to friends” capability, incorporating name, e-mail, and captcha for security.
- Notifying all connections if a user changes their profile information.
- Allowing the group to edit the list of classmate information to update or add current contact information.
- JEvents to allow anyone to add an event, including conference calls.
- JoomGallery as a great photo gallery.
- FrontPage Slideshow as a great slide show (commercial but not costly).
