While this is not necessarily Joomla! specific, setting up local environments to test website development is a real help. Bruce Scherzinger shared his knowledge of setting up development environments in Windows 10. Specifically, Bruce's presentation covered:
- Installing Oracle VirtualBox to create a Virtual Machine (VM)
- Installing Linux Mint as the VM operating system
- Installing XAMPP in Linux Mint to get Apache, MySQL, Perl, PHP, and phpMyAdmin all installed
- Setting up XAMPP to auto-start at VM boot
- Installing Joomla 4 (Alpha 9) on the Linux VM
Bruce also finally figured out how he got Fabrik to create a hidden date field that automatically stores the date a list record was last updated. This is not shown in the slides.
Below is the recorded video of the presentation.
